natioandairymonthHappy National Dairy Month from Whitsons Culinary Group. National Dairy Month is an annual tradition that not only celebrates the dairy industry but also serves as a reminder of the importance of adding nutrient-rich dairy foods to your daily diet. 

 

Dairy such as milk, yogurt, and cheese, provide many essential nutrients such as calcium, vitamin d, vitamin a, potassium and protein that are necessary for the health and maintenance of the body.  Calcium helps strengthen bones and teeth and supports the functionality of the heart, muscles, and nerves. 

 

Calcium can also help prevent osteoporosis, a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile and many other conditions such as gum disease, hypertension, and arthritis.  There are many benefits to adding dairy to your daily diet and yet most people do not get enough.  So how do you know if you are consuming enough dairy each day? According to nutrition experts, it is recommended to have three servings of dairy each day or 2-3 cups of milk.

 

Overall, it is important to maintain a balance among the foods you consume in order to get all essential nutrients.
