Physiologically, our bodies are prepared to lighten the load from winter and accept the new beginnings spring has to offer. Say goodbye to the comfort foods of winter and hello to the lighter, delicious foods of spring.

 

Warmer weather brings new crops of fresh and seasonal produce: a perfect addition to your diet, and a way to lighten up your favorite winter dishes. Follow these tips for a springtime delight:

 

  • Take advantage of the farmers markets featured in the spring.
  • Trade in rich vegetable soups for freshly chopped vegetable salads.
  • Add flavor with fresh herbs like chives, tarragon, scallions, mint and dill to your favorite cuts of meats.
  • Replace the creamy sauces and dressings with lighter garlic, oil and vegetable options.
  • Blend up a springtime pesto with arugula, mint, lemon zest, walnuts and parmesan to use on salads, steamed veggies and lean proteins.
  • Enjoy a range of seasonal fruits at breakfast, lunch and snack.
